Relevance of Sophisticated Approaches

The objectives of this component are to evaluate whether using more complex and more realistic modelling approaches with the help of actual high-performance tools (i) give an account in a demonstration/trust logic with the comprehension of the process, (ii) provide an added value, and (iii) are required to include processes not yet fully accounted for in performance assessment.

The evaluations will consist in comparison between the results from fully integrated models and supporting numerical codes with a high level of geometrical accuracy and results from usual compartmental, semi-analytical or simplified models and codes. Through different benchmark exercises on specific processes, the relevance, advantages and limitations inherent to each approach and their associated tools will be assessed.

RTDC-4 comprises four tasks.

The first task, through several exercises, deals with PA approaches based on different complexity of process modelling. The relevance of complex approaches in geometry modelling forms the subject of the second task. The objective of the third task, in relation with RTDC-2, is to test codes dealing with uncertainties (including methods to treat uncertainties) on a practical case. A fourth task is foreseen, in which new practical cases will be evaluated that may be defined at a later stage of the project depending on the outcomes of RTDC-3 and RTDC-1.

This RTDC is led by CEA, France.
